Following the overwhelming success of Tynemouth’s first classic VW camper van and car rally last year, the event will take place once again this summer, but this time it will be bigger and better.
Having secured both car parks at Priors Haven, the organisers are expecting more than 150 vehicles to take part in the event on Saturday 28th July and to attract thousands of people in to the village to see the prized VW camper vans and classic ‘love bug’ Beetles.
Last summer 4,000 visitors came into Tynemouth to get a closer look at the iconic vehicles and enjoy all the village has to offer and the organisers expect an even greater turn out this year, now that word has spread amongst VW enthusiasts.
The camper vans will be on show at both car parks throughout the day and will be supported by musical entertainment and food stalls. The festival will end with an impressive convey of campers and vintage cars travelling along the coastline from Tynemouth to Whitley Bay.
Jill Snailham, lead event organiser on behalf of Tynemouth Business Forum said: “We have received interest from all over the UK as word has spread throughout the classic VW community about what a fantastic location Tynemouth is. Last year we received lots of feedback about the perfect backdrop of the historic Priory and beach which makes the Tynemouth Classic a key event in the VW enthusiast calendar.
“It should be a great day for both the exhibitors and people coming to see the vehicles as the whole village is once again getting behind the event, with shops decorating windows with VW memorabilia and local school children helping to decorate the streets.”
