Laura Watkin, a Monkseaton Early Years student at Northumbria University, is to embark on a journey to Eastern Europe. Her Romanian Challenge 2012 will involve her helping deprived children in the country through assisting with their care, teaching English and taking the children on trips, as well as helping to renovate their homes. This experience is an add-on to her university course.
Laura is heading off in July 2012. She started fundraising early this year and had a very successful coffee morning at St Andrew’s Church in Monkseaton which went a long way to securing her financial goal for the trip. Laura has grown up through St Andrew’s, being christened there and then taking part in many activities including Brownies and Guides, Junior Church and helping with the Holiday Club for many years.
Now at 20, this will be one of the most exciting and challenging things Laura has undertaken and the experience she will gain in Romania will be invaluable.
