What is Parent Talk? It is a parenting advice project, delivered by volunteers and run as a partnership by Whitley Bay Baptist Church and Whitley Bay Extended Services. It has been delivered by Christine Kaine since 2008 who is academically qualified to provide parenting advice and being a Mum of three, a retired teacher and learning mentor has had a vast amount of experience.
Participants meet in a relaxed atmosphere for a short series of weekly group sessions, to build on their strengths, pick up top tips and share experiences.
There is NO CHARGE for these sessions and the refreshments are free too. We have a lot of laughs and everyone is able to contribute in their own way. Some comments from those taking part are:
- I am no different to other parents!
- Communication in our home has improved so much.
- Before this I felt very alone and out of my depth. It’s been great to find out what I’m feeling is normal and others are feeling it too.
The feedback from participants is overwhelmingly excellent and in March 2012 the project was presented with the First Place outstanding Health Community Award by North Tyneside Council and North Tyneside PCT.
Parent talk sessions are held in schools and other community venues in North Tyneside; to find out where future sessions are happening please call Parent Talk Co-ordinator, Christine Kaine, on 07905 674 952 or send an email to christine.kaine@wbbc.co.uk.
