LOCAL INTEREST: Tycoons in Whitley

November 29, 2014

Tycoon in Schools LogoFive fantastic student enterprise teams from Whitley Bay High School have begun trading, after they were awarded funding by Peter Jones CBE, entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den star, to compete in a bid to be crowned winners of Tycoon in Schools 2014.

The race is on for the budding young business stars from Whitley Bay. With student participation up by over 40 percent since the competition’s inception, competition is tougher than ever for the Whitley Bay students. Underpinned by Peter’s mission to put enterprise at the heart of the education system, since it was launched in 2012 the competition has seen thousands of young tycoons benefit from loans to start up their very own businesses.

Budding entrepreneurs from Whitley Bay High School are among the thousand-or-so high-calibre students who have been selected this year by Peter Jones to receive funding and kick-start their business ideas. The teams’ products include handcrafted cakes, personalised skateboards, posh popcorn, eco-crafts and fabulous African inspired cosmetics.

These products will all be on sale at the school’s annual Christmas Fayre which takes place on Thursday 11th December from 5pm to 7pm.
