Roland took over the organ stool some forty three years ago and fulfilled his duty with true dedication, latterly carrying on playing when at times it was a great struggle for him. His tenure covered the reign of four incumbents and two curates, four of whom took part in his funeral requiem.
Roland had many gifts, but the one to which he gave his whole life was music – playing it, singing it, composing it, conducting it and recording it, producing a library archive over all the years.
St Alban’s is on the lookout for a new organist, for which a small honorarium is paid, and there are many weddings to supplement this income.
A concert is to be given by Musica Johannis at St Alban’s in memory of Roly on Saturday 20th July at 7.30 pm. Proceeds will be split between Marie Curie Care and St. Alban’s Heating Project.
Tickets are ₤7 which includes a glass of wine.
