LOCAL INTEREST: Revealing the North Shields Story in a New Light

May 1, 2015

Pirate Fun at the Old Low LightNew heritage centre Old Low Light is now open to visitors…

The Old Low Light has been at the heart of North Shields Fish Quay for over 900 years; its vital role was to lead mariners safely into the Tyne. We are working to make sure it continues to have an important role in the North Shields community.

Our new centre tells the dramatic North Shields story. Lose yourself in the stories of traders, fishermen, shipbuilders and mariners as you navigate your course on a dynamic exploration of maritime heritage.

Through our changing programme of hands-on activities, workshops, exhibitions and events you can learn about the life of the folk of North Shields through the experiences of real people and the objects they used.

Enjoy spectacular views over the mouth of the Tyne from our viewing platform and enjoy a range of locally sourced hot and cold snacks available at our café.

If you have a special event you can hire this magnificent Grade II listed building to host your private parties, weddings, or corporate events.

To find out more, visit us at Clifford’s Fort, North Shields Fish Quay, Tyne and Wear, NE30 1JA.
