LOCAL INTEREST: Musical Commemoration of World War I

August 30, 2014

To commemorate World War I, In Accord Mixed Voice Choir is holding a charity concert in aid of the local branch of the Royal British Legion and the Blind Veterans UK.

The programme ‘Because of the Brave’ is being held at North Shields Methodist Church, Hawkeys Lane, North Shields, on Saturday 27th September at 6.00pm, and is supported by the Air Training Corps 346 Squadron Air Cadets Band, Tynemouth.

The director of music, Margaret Clark has chosen a programme of words and music which is powerful, patriotic and an emotional salute to those young men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedom.

The reading of ‘Dulce et Decorum Est’ by Wilfred Owen and items such as ‘In Flanders Fields’, ’A Song to the Unsung Hero’, a Medley of first World War Songs and Rutter’s ‘Distant Land- a prayer for freedom’- written to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall and the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, are just a few of the awe inspiring pieces which the choir will perform.

Supported by veterans and representatives from the services, ‘Colours’ will be received and a distribution of poppies will take place.

‘Because of the Brave, our flag still flies high’

Tickets at £7 are available from Margaret on 0191 257 1907 or by e-mail at mclarkingleside@blueyonder.co.uk.
