LOCAL INTEREST: Floppsie the Facebook Fundraiser!

February 28, 2015

The presentation evening at the Surf CafeOver 1,000 members of a local Facebook Group have raised over £5,000 for good causes.

Ex-fisherman Jimmy Cullen of Master Mariners Homes in Tynemouth and his friend John Spoors set up a Facebook Group in March 2014 called ‘Floppsie Cullen’s Tynemouth’. Group members regularly post a selection of topical items of local interest.

John said: “We wanted this group to be more than just another Facebook Group. What we have here is unique; a group of lovely people all with a common interest of sharing good craic and friendly banter.”

The pair also organised a social night at Cullercoats Club in December, producing 400 ‘Floppsie’ calendars, which along with a raffle and members donations, raised a grand total of £5,040.

All money raised was divided between TVLB (Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade), Cullercoats Watch House, The Good Will Cause and Jason Roberts ‘7 Days 7 Irons’ challenge and was handed over to the respective organisations at a presentation evening held at the Surf Café, Tynemouth on 30th January.

If you share an interest in our local area, and would like to be part of this friendly group, just search for ‘Floppsie Cullen’s Tynemouth’ on Facebook and make your request to join.
