A Whitley Bay company has been touring care homes and day care centres in the community with a new style programme, aimed at stimulating and bringing cheer to older adults. ‘Excite Your Life’ employs a variety of techniques including memory games, yoga, music and activities designed to improve co-ordination, with one common goal – to improve levels of happiness. The interactive programmes, developed to improve both physical and mental agility, are based on the latest research into health and ageing. The most popular is ‘All the Fun of the Fair’, with themes and music based around an old fashioned funfair.
Residents are emerging from the sessions with smiles on their faces and springs in their steps, and carers are also encouraged by the effects. One said: “I knew you’d been in, Billy came up dancing.”
Excite Your Life is a non-profit organisation, set up without funding, grants or outside investment. They welcome companies or individuals to sponsor sessions in local care homes to support their work in the community, with gift vouchers from as little as £30.
