St Andrew’s Church in Eastfield Avenue, Monkseaton has many clubs and societies which meet throughout the year and further details can be obtained from the Church Secretary, Ray Hammond, on 0191 252 3319.
One of our longstanding clubs is The Friendship Club, which meets fortnightly on a Friday afternoon in the Main Hall at St Andrew’s. It was formed in 1995, taking over a Darby and Joan Club which was about to close.
It is a popular club, centred on couples, people who live alone, or those in a sheltered housing situation who want to meet friends and make new ones. There is a regular programme of speakers and entertainment, plus refreshments are served at the fortnightly meetings. Twice a year the club holds a celebration meal, before Christmas and before Easter.
The next meeting, after the summer break, will be on Friday 14th September 2012 commencing at 2.00pm.
Anyone wishing to know more about the club, with a view to joining, please contact the Chairman, Paul Hartley, on 0191 252 8787 or the Treasurer, Christine Ridley, on 0191 253 3749 – or simply come along to our September meeting.
