ENTERTAINMENT: A Spring Bouquet

May 1, 2015

Spring bouquet“A Spring Bouquet” is planned to celebrate 5 years of ‘Singing for Pleasure’ by In Accord, a mixed voice choir in North Shields. Favourite pieces have been chosen to celebrate this milestone.

Director of Music, Margaret Clark said “When we started this venture we had no idea how successful it would be – we hoped that we could bring music to the community and raise money for charity. We have been fortunate that we have succeeded and look to a few more years of Singing for Pleasure”

The concert is to be held in North Shields Methodist Church, Hawkeys Lane, on Saturday 9th May at 6pm. Tickets at £7 are available from 0191 257 1907.

Members of the Northumbrian Clarsach Society will support the programme with a selection of music from Northumberland, Scotland and some classics.

The Clarsach is one of the oldest instruments of Scotland and is also known as the small harp. It has a quiet sound and in the past was often used for lulling people to sleep (we are sure that this will not happen on the 9th May!). The harp goes very well with the voice and is often used to accompany singing.

During the concert, a donation will be given to Mr Brian Burnie, the founder of ‘Daft as a Brush’ Cancer Patient Care. The organisation offers staffed custom made vehicles to transport outpatients, free of charge, to and from hospital when they are undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy cancer treatment.
