ENTERTAINMENT: Europe Bound Choir to Perform Festive Dates

November 30, 2013

The choir in full voiceA truly international feel fills Whitley Women’s Choir this year as it gears up for a series of uplifting Christmas events around the region. As well as some truly British carol classics, forthcoming performances will include songs from around the world, including Germany, France, Sweden, and Czechoslovakia – many of which you will recognise and may inspire you to sing along.

To add to their international year, the choir have been invited to perform in The Netherlands in March next year, with the hugely successful contemporary choir – Eurokoor, who perform throughout The Netherlands and Europe. Whitley Women played host to Eurokoor in 2012 and the visitors were so impressed that they have invited the choir back to perform alongside them.

Set up in 2009 and led by Gilly Love, Whitley Women is always ready to welcome new members too. They sing a wide range of material, from Cole Porter to Annie Lennox, Gospel, Beatles, music from around the world and from Tyneside.

Gilly says ‘There are no auditions and no experience is necessary, but experience is good too. Just come along and learn with us, you will surprise yourself how good you can become.’

The choir also supports local charities, and has raised over £20,000 since they began performing.

Whitley Women are to perform a Christmas special at Seaton Delaval Hall on 8 Dec from 1.30-2.30pm and are also performing at Park View Shopping Centre, Whitley Bay on 21 Dec at 11am.
