The last few weeks seem to have flown by; it doesn’t seem five minutes since I was making preparations for the children’s long summer holiday, yet within a very few days they’ll be beginning another school year. I’m hoping I’ve remembered all the items of school uniform and PE kit which need replacing!
On the subject of time passing, I can’t believe that preparations are already well in hand for the annual ‘Pink October’ in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. There are lots of local people and organisations who work hard to raise funds and promote this worthwhile cause, and one in particular is my lovely friend Shirley Hallam, who as ever is heavily involved. We’ll provide more information about events taking place locally in next month’s issue , but Shirley has asked me to draw your attention to the Pink Gala which will take place on Friday 5th October at the Playhouse in Whitley Bay.
Hosted by the Theatre Royal’s very own dame, Chris Hayward (who has an unrivalled collection of frocks!), and with an all female cast providing a mix of professional and amateur talent, the evening will combine musical theatre, dance, comedy and live music. It’s sure to entertain, so hurry and get tickets: either in person at the Playhouse Box Office, via the website www.playhousewhitleybay.co.uk or by calling the booking line on 0844 277 2771. Ticket price is £15 and the money will be given to Shirley as the Community Ambassador for the Breast Cancer Campaign, to be used for local research into Metastasis at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
