A group from The Hunting Lodge are getting on their bikes to complete a Coast to Coast ride in aid of Guide Dogs. Pub patrons are hoping to raise £5,000 that will enable them to name and support a puppy through its first 14 months of training.
Guide Dogs Manager, Mark Burnett, is one of the team, as is landlord Geoff Sword. Mark says, “I’m delighted by the support we’ve had from the regulars, Geoff Sword and Mitchells & Butlers Brewery who have kindly donated £500 towards our target. Every hour another person in the UK goes blind. The puppy that we can hopefully support will mean that another blind or partially sighted person can live a more independent life.”
The group are completing the 170 mile route from Whitehaven to Tynemouth over three days in May. Mark says, “We are all of different ages, abilities and fitness but having the support of such a large group makes training easier. We also have brilliant support from other regulars at the pub who have been donating prizes, buying raffle tickets and attending music nights to help us reach our target.”
The team are covering all of their costs personally so every penny raised will go to supporting the Guide Dog puppy.
Geoff says, “We are delighted to support this very worthy cause. We’ve already held some music nights to help us towards the all important £5,000 target.”
