EDITOR’S LETTER: July 2011

July 3, 2011

There is plenty of entertainment on offer this month, and I’d like to remind you in particular of the Fun Day to be held on Saturday 2nd July at St Peter’s Church in Monkseaton to raise funds for ‘Help Lily to St Louis’, which we ran a feature on last month. There are also performances by the Saturday Stage School of ‘Billy Elliot’ at the Playhouse on Sunday 3rd July in Whitley Bay and at St Andrew’s Church in Monkseaton on Saturday 9th July, and if that isn’t enough then Tynemouth Amateur Operatic Society are presenting ‘The Melody Lingers On’ at King’s School in Tynemouth on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th July.

If you’re organising an event for a local charity or community group and want to publicise it then do please contact us—entries on our community pages are free of charge.

We had some sad news recently: one of our local contributors, Ken Banks, passed away on 8th June after becoming ill earlier this year. Ken was a retired Police Sergeant and Police Historian who supported PC David Rathband’s Blue Lamp Foundation and the  ‘Remembering the Past – Resourcing the Future’ project at North Shields Central Library, in particular by donating all the profits from his book ‘Offbeat – Memories of the former Tynemouth Borough Police and the communities it served’. Ken will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Don’t forget, if you have any comments about the magazine, then do please get in touch—call us on 0191 253 7608 or send an email to info@roundaboutpublications.co.uk.
